The Stony Brook Emergency Department Patient Navigator Program was created to support
patients suffering from ongoing effects of trauma, by​:
- Helping patients identify the educational resources they need​
- Providing information about a range of different approaches to healing and recovery​
- Helping patients decide if trauma therapy is right for them
- Helping patients who want therapy select among a wide array of local and online therapists
offering a variety of approaches, after identifying patients' preferences and constraints​ - Providing assistance securing an appointment if needed
- Providing guidance on self-help materials​
- Connecting patients with a variety of additional treatment resources, such as​:
Domestic violence services​
Substance abuse treatment
Postpartum support​
Treatment resources for eating disorders
