Community Relations

The University & Hospital Community Relations Office is committed to fostering communication, building relationships, facilitating programs and promoting initiatives that help improve the health and wellness and overall quality of life of our communities. We work closely with individuals and organizations in responding to community health needs and connecting people with services and resources at ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½.

Committed to our communities 

Community Relations oversees and supports a number of services, programs and educational initiatives that promote healthier communities. Our office also serves as a resource to ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ employees interested in participating and/or planning external community events. 

Community Services
 

  • Speakers Bureau: Community Relations staff can connect you with a ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ expert to speak at your organization, school, library, association, or community center. Stony Brook healthcare professionals can present on a wide range of topics. To arrange for a speaker, complete this or call (631) 632-6275. All speaker requests must be submitted at least six weeks in advance of the event date.
     
  • Fairs & Festivals: If you are hosting a fair or festival and would like ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ to attend, present, table/exhibit, please complete this or call (631) 632-6275. All fair & festival requests must be submitted at least eight weeks in advance of the event date. 
     
  • Health Screenings: Stony Brook healthcare professionals provide a variety of health screenings. Visit the to learn more about upcoming health screenings near you. 

Community Engagement
 

  • HOPE: The program offers insight and mentorship to high school students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare. The program seeks to decrease healthcare disparities by increasing the number of healthcare providers from underserved and underrepresented communities. The program is currently open to students from Brentwood, Longwood and Wyandanch High Schools. 
     
  • Doctors Back to School Day: In collaboration with the Renaissance School of Medicine and faculty from the , the Community Relations Office supports the annual each spring. The program seeks to help students from underrepresented communities realize that medicine is an attainable profession.

Community Programs & Events
 

  • : The annual event, which highlights the Stony Brook campus through hands-on, interactive activities, entertainment and thought-provoking mini-talks, is free and open to the public. 
  • Dragon Boat Races: Cheer on Stony Brook University and ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ at the annual . Each year, teams across Long Island and New York compete for bragging rights and a chance to win gold. 

  • Mall Walkers: Walking is a low-impact, low-risk and easy aerobic exercise that conditions your heart and lungs while engaging your whole body. Our Mall Walkers Club meets nine times a year at Smith Haven Mall, which offers the perfect weatherproof environment for walking.
