When searching for the best possible care for your child, Long Islanders need not look further than their own backyard. 听Dr. Christopher Muratore, Chief of Pediatric Surgery was featured in Long Island MD News last month where he discussed the type of multidisciplinary,听collaborative care you can find at Stony Brook Children's. 听
鈥淐hildren鈥檚 surgery requires lots of follow-up and continuation of care,鈥 Dr. Muratore says. 鈥淗aving an institution like Stony Brook, with multiple community access points, keeps people where they live and helps kids stay in school whenever possible. Families can continue working, too 鈥 they don鈥檛 have to uproot themselves and move when their child has surgery.鈥
But while the convenience to family is imperative, the relationship and collaboration听with our community physicians听is just as important. 听
Dr. Muratore听encourages physicians to reach out to him and his staff with questions about their patients. 听This sort of dialogue and cohesion听is encouraged so that physicians in the community are confident in our treatment strategy and have a full听view of the type of care their patients receive. 听
鈥淲e have created a system that allows a pediatrician to call and speak with me and say, 鈥業 don鈥檛 know what I鈥檓 looking at,鈥 or, 鈥業 think I鈥檓 looking at X, can you see the patient?鈥欌 Dr. Muratore says. 鈥淲e鈥檙e honored to collaborate with children鈥檚 providers across Long Island.鈥
