Mission

The mission of the Center for Interprofessional Innovation (CIPI) is to promote and foster a culture of interprofessional collaboration in education, practice, andragogy, and scholarship that is embraced by faculty, students, preceptors, practitioners, and all members of the 星空无限传媒 community and the university at large.

Vision

The Center for Interprofessional Innovation seeks to prepare a workforce who will transform health care and improve population health through recognizing, appreciating, and embracing the power of teams and teamwork.

What is Interprofessional Education (IPE)?

Interprofessional Education (IPE) occurs 鈥渨hen students from two or more professions learn with, from and about each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes鈥().听听

What is Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (IPCP)?

Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (IPCP) happens when multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds work together with patients, families, carers and communities to deliver the highest quality of care across settings ()

What is Interprofessional Collaborative Learning (IPCL)?

Interprofessional Collaborative Learning (IPCL) happens when faculty, students and practitioners recognize each profession鈥檚 distinctive disciplinary expertise, values the benefits of teamwork, and encourages a learning culture in which these principles are taught and modeled in an environment of respect, cultural sensitivity, and with psychological safety in mind(;听).

IPECP Initiatives at Stony Brook

IPECP Faculty and Staff Development Learning Community 

Join us and become part of the IPECP faculty and staff development learning community for academic year 2025-26! This course is designed as a learning community to enhance the skills and knowledge of faculty members across various disciplines, fostering collaboration and improving educational outcomes for students. Participants who complete the program will earn Stony Brook's Excellence in IP Collaboration and Education. 

Virtual Interprofessional Team-based Learning with Simulation (VITLS)

Join Stony Brook鈥檚 Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Social Welfare, Dental, and Health Professions, Quinnipiac鈥檚 School for Health Professions, and LIU鈥檚 health professions鈥 programs for the inaugural launch of Stony Brook鈥檚 interprofessional experiential opportunity in Fall 2025. This is a 4 session, 7 hour team based experience with virtual simulation. Students will be asked to complete asynchronous informational modules in preparation for this experience. Participation can be used toward your application for Stony Brook鈥檚 Excellence in Collaborative Practice digital badge.

Virtual Interprofessional Team Learning and Simulation Elective Course

Students from the School of Medicine, Nursing, Social Welfare, Dental, and Health Professionals can have an opportunity to complete four week intensive virtual class that will focus on developing and strengthening core interprofessional competencies 鈥 teamwork, communication, values and ethics and roles and responsibilities. Participants who complete the course and all assignments will earn Stony Brook鈥檚 Excellence in Collaborative Practice digital badge.

A partnership between the Public Libraries of Suffolk County, a unique team of healthcare professionals, and graduate student interns to provide access to both in-person and virtual healthcare-related resources for public library patrons. Stony Brook's Program in Public Health, School of Social Welfare, School of Nursing, and Physician Assistant students and faculty are engaged in this initiative. HeLP provides students opportunities to experience an interprofessional team and demonstrate the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC, 2023) core competencies.
